About Suzanne

Suzanne Dumais MDiv. RP., RMFT., CCFT.,  has a master's degree of Divinity degree with a major in counseling from Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto. She is a clinical member of the Canadian   Association for Marriage and Family Therapists CAMFT (#129865), she is  a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario CRPO (#004436). She is also a certified couple and family therapist (CCFT) through the American  Association of marriage and family therapy  AAMFT in which she is also a clinical member.

Suzanne’s approach to counseling is non-judgmental, kind, understanding and she values her client’s input in the therapy session. She works with her clients' goals and focuses on a treatment that is realistic for them. She believes it is crucial to build a therapeutic alliance with her clients and to create a confidential respectful atmosphere.

Suzanne offers exceptional services with individuals, couples and families. She is qualified to treat a wide range of serious clinical issues and is trained in multiple counseling  therapy modalities. She is confident to treat many problems such as domestic violence, divorce recovery, women issues, various forms of abuse, trauma, mental illnesses, marital problems, communication issues, family conflicts, individual psychological problems, stress, and anger management.

Suzanne has been in private practice for many years.  She is a mature and experienced therapist.  In addition, she has worked in a clinical setting alongside physicians and psychiatrists treating mental illnesses, providing psychotherapy, and gaining knowledge about medication treatments. She is a former qualified teacher and has worked for many years in the educational system and is a public speaker. Suzanne is a trained Gottman therapist helping couples with various issues. She is a trained and qualified Prepare-Enrich couple therapist.  She provides marriage preparation to engaged couples and enrichment to older couples. Suzanne is also trained in basic EMDR  therapy treating all forms of trauma and mental issues. She offers workshops, seminars, and presentations to schools and other professional organizations on different current topics. Suzanne is fully bilingual in French and English and can offer therapy in both languages.

The focus of therapy is to provide insights, healing, restoration, and to teach new skills so that clients can bring their best selves to the worst moments of their life or relationships.  She guides people through a process of being able to feel safe so they can speak truthfully about their painful and complicated life stories, including  family of origin trauma, affairs, addictions, sexuality concerns, addictive behaviors, and much more. Through a variety of techniques and therapy modalities, she helps clients understand their unhealthy dynamics and patterns, and show them what they can do to build new healthier relationships or ways of living. 

She is happily married with older children and is delighted to be a grandmother. In her spare time, she likes reading, hiking, gardening, cooking, traveling, and cultivating an interest in art.
